Vantage Updated Tue, 2025 November 4 04:43
  • ASX 200: The index hovered near AU$8,900, staying flat as traders awaited direction from global markets.
  • BHP Group Limited: BHP slipped 0.18% on Monday but remains up 3.41% this month and 1.38% over the year.
  • Northern Star Resources: Northern Star fell 2.03% on Monday and 2.9% this month but is still up 37.14% year-on-year.
  • Origin Energy Limited: Origin Energy gained 0.98% on Monday, trimming its 0.64% monthly loss while holding a 27.26% annual rise.

The ASX 200 remained relatively quiet during Monday’s trading session, holding near the AU$8,900 level and just below the 50-day EMA. This lack of movement reflects the broader pause in global market momentum. Many investors continue to question how the global economy and interest rates will develop in the coming months.

The United States and China appear to be moving towards some form of trade agreement, though no final deal has been reached. Until there is more clarity, markets may continue to face uncertainty over whether investors will lean towards risk-taking or prefer safer assets.

The Australian market is often viewed as a reflection of transpacific trade and China’s economic performance. At present, the ASX 200 seems to be consolidating, suggesting that traders are waiting for stronger cues before committing to a new direction.

Chart 1: ASX 200 daily price chart

BHP Group Limited (BHP)

BHP fell by 0.18% during Monday’s trading session but has gained 3.41% over the past month. Over the past year, the stock has risen only 1.38%, as the materials sector faces ongoing uncertainty about the outlook for global trade and economic growth.

Concerns remain about whether the global economy could slow into a recession. However, if materials were to weaken further, this sector is often among the first to recover when economic conditions improve.

At present, BHP remains in a modest uptrend. Buyers appear to be stepping in during short-term pullbacks, supported by steady trading volumes that suggest continued investor interest.

Northern Star Resources Limited (NST)

Northern Star Resources fell by 2.03% during Monday’s trading session and has declined 2.9% over the past month. However, over the past year, the stock has surged 37.14%, closely tracking gold’s strong performance.

As interest in gold remains high, Northern Star Resources continues to benefit from the precious metal’s momentum. From a technical perspective, the AU$23 level has recently acted as a key support area, with the 50-day EMA positioned nearby.

Trading volume has also remained steady, suggesting that there are no major signs of weakness for technical traders at this stage.

Chart 3: Northern Star Resources daily price chart

Origin Energy Limited (ORG)

Origin Energy Limited rose by 0.98% during Monday’s trading session as investors moved towards utilities for a sense of stability. Despite this, the stock has slipped 0.64% over the past month, though it remains up 27.26% over the past year.

Recently, ORG experienced a brief pullback before rebounding with renewed buying interest. The 50-day EMA is currently near the price level seen at the close of trading, indicating potential technical support.

Trading volume increased following the earlier gap lower, suggesting that value-oriented investors may be stepping in to take advantage of the dip.
